Teacher of Special Educational Needs

TEACHER OF Special Educational Needs

Pay range MPR1 – MPR6 £25,714 - £36,961

We are looking to appoint a committed and innovative teacher with experience of teaching pupils with SEND.

Shoeburyness High School is a large, vibrant and diverse secondary school that has an excellent reputation as a warm and supportive environment in which to work. We are a very popular school with families in the local area and beyond and consequently we are heavily oversubscribed.

Our young people deserve the best and if you have very high expectations married with energy and positivity then we would love to hear from you.

We require someone to teach within our specialist pathway for pupils who need additional support to access secondary learning. The role requires delivery at KS4 and KS3. All subject specialisms are encouraged to apply, however, an ability to plan and deliver lessons in core literacy and numeracy is necessary. Currently, pupils within this pathway undertake a mixture of Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 courses, with subject specialists delivering lessons in KS4 science and English. The curriculum is reviewed annually for pupils depending on their needs and skills and so the ability to be flexible and responsive to pupil needs is a vital aspect of the role.

Past experience of teaching pupils who have significant needs is desirable but not a necessity. More important is an awareness of SEND and an enthusiasm to provide the best possible experiences for these pupils. You will need to have the highest of expectations, but also boundless patience and energy.

The opportunity to teach in the mainstream of the school would also be available for a candidate and may be a requirement at times.

This post could suit both experienced colleagues and newly qualified entrants to the profession depending on the role allocated.

For the right candidate there is also the possibility of an additional responsibility within the Department. This will be discussed at interview but may involve leading a Key Stage or an aspect of curriculum development for example.

The school has a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Please visit our website www.shoeburynesshigh.co.uk or contact Jill Saunders at hr@shoeburyness.southend.sch.uk for an application pack.

Closing date: 26th November 2020

Interviews: week commencing 30th November 2020
