Hopefully you will have received a welcome email today from Mrs C. Costello, Headteacher of Shoeburyness High School. We will continue to communicate via our website but also email with specific information.

Update: Monday 22nd June - Any questions?
As we unfortunately will not be able to host our New Intake Evening on the 2nd July and our Transition Day on the 3rd July, we would like to give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
Our Year 7 Year Manager, Academic Year Lead and SENCo Assistant can be contacted this week via email and then we will try to address any questions in this section of the website. Please appreciate there may be some we can not answer at this point pending government guidance.

Update: Thursday 11th June - Duplicate Sheets
We are aware that Information Gathering Packs (Return Packs) are starting to arrive to parents which is great.
It has been pointed out to us though that an error has been made on the front cover regarding duplicated sheets in the Welcome Pack Booklet. We can only apologise for this but we hope you appreciate that as we are changing our resources to support your children, this has been an oversight on our part.
We will therefore update this website with the Partnership Agreement, ICT Acceptable Use Contract and the GDPR/Use of Images of Children Permission Form so that you can save or print a copy for yourself.

Update: Monday 8th June - Information Gathering Packs
Year 6 Information Gathering Packs have been posted to all parents and carers and should arrive with you shortly. We would be grateful if you could complete the information and return the whole pack to Shoeburyness High School by Friday 26th June.
Please allow extra time for posting in the current circumstances. If however, you have not received the information by Monday 15th June, please email the School Office with your name, your child's name and their primary school. Could you also confirm your address in your email please.
We have provided a stamped self addressed envelope but if you would prefer to deliver it directly to the school, there is postbox available in our main foyer between 9:00 and 14:30.
You will also find in your envelope information on uniform suppliers and a map of our school. Please see activities below in relation to this map to help your child become more familiar with the school environment.

In the current climate, we have decided to not produce a Welcome Pack in the same format as previous years.
As your children will not have a physical transition day in our school, we wanted to ensure the information we were providing our Year 6 pupils was more informative and engaging so that they had the closest experience remotely.
We are therefore producing brand new resources to support your child's transition. We are taking the main elements of the previous Welcome Pack and hopefully making them more interactive for your child. You are welcome to refer to last year's Welcome Pack but please be aware that some information will have changed.
These resources are taking time to produce but we are be updating them weekly so please check regularly for new information.

Welcome from Mrs W Evans, Year 7 Year Manager
Hello and welcome to Shoeburyness High School.
Transition can be a stressful time for Year 6 pupils in normal circumstances but we understand that this will be heightened in these unprecedented times and we want to alleviate this in any way we can.
I would therefore like to introduce myself so that you can start to become familiar with your school and help you get ready for your new start. My name is Mrs Wendy Evans and I will be your Year Manager at Shoeburyness High School for the next 5 years. I am here to support you and your parents and carers as you transition into year 7 and as you continue your journey through to year 11.
We are currently working on our transition resources at the moment which are full of helpful information about the school. These will be updated weekly on our website so please see below for the links.
I would also like to suggest you have a look at our school Twitter account @Shoebury_High. There are different accounts for all departments and it would be a good way for you to gain some insight into the school.

My name is Mr Chris Smith and I will be your Academic Year Leader throughout your time at Shoeburyness High School. I will be working alongside Mrs Evans to help support you.
My role is focused on your academic achievement and progress, so I’ll be looking at how you are doing in your subjects and helping you to achieve your target grades as much as possible.
I appreciate it is a difficult time at the moment and you may be worried about what you will be learning when you join Shoeburyness High School. Please do not worry. You would have covered most of the Key Stage 2 curriculum before schools shut down so just take time to look back at what you have already done. Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Shoeburyness High School has a very good working relationship with our Primary Schools in order to make the transition to us as easy as possible.
Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), Miss Kate Williams will been in contact with the Primary School SENCos, to discuss the needs of each individual student prior to them starting with us in September.
On entry to Shoeburyness High School, progress is carefully monitored by the SENCo and teaching staff. Students will have a series of assessments in order to assess their individual needs. If we find that a student has difficulties in a particular area that may affect their progress, we will organise interventions to address this. The outcome of these assessments may mean that your child may be placed on the SEND register.
In order for students to make progress, a number of different strategies are available to us
- Extra support in class
- Working in small groups
- Working on an individual basis
- Support from outside agencies
The decision for who receives this support is made by the SENCo and delivered by either teachers or LSAs.
Here at Shoeburyness High School we have an Assistant to the SENCo, Miss Carol Kemp along with a small team of LSAs who can be available to support student needs both inside and outside of the classroom.

Welcome to our attendance team. Along with your Year Manager, Academic Year Leader, Form Tutor and teachers, they are here to support you in achieving excellent attendance.

Achieving and maintaining high standards of punctuality and attendance is a priority for every student. We would expect students to have at least a 97% attendance record.
If your child is unable to attend, please:
· Send a note prior to the absence if the reason is known beforehand.
· Telephone as early as possible on the morning of the first day of absence. Please listen to the voicemail message and select the appropriate option (option 3) for student absence. State the student’s name, tutor group and day that the student is expected to return to school.
· Maintain daily contact with the attendance office throughout the absence.
The school will:
· contact parents during the first day of absence, using text messages to mobile phones, if absence is not accounted for.
· contact parents to request notes for any absence that is not accounted for.
Parents are urged to contact the school if there are any problems they wish to discuss relating to attendance. Our full-time Attendance Officers are available to discuss any issues regarding attendance. The school does carry out home visits to ascertain reasons for absence. Attendance data is regularly monitored throughout the year.

FAQ - What do the classrooms look like?
You may have already seen some of our classrooms when you came to visit Shoeburyness High School for our Open Evening last September and the activities that take place in them.
FAQ - Can I cycle or ride my kick scooter to school? Where can I keep my bike or kick scooter?
Cycling and scootering are great ways to get about and we would encourage students to either walk, cycle or kick scooter into school.
Please note that Caulfield Road and Delaware Road can be busy in the mornings and after school, especially as they are both bus routes. Pavements are also busy and with younger children who will be going to and from our local primary and infant schools.
We therefore ask for your own and others' safety that this is done responsibly, respectfully and that you follow safety guidance. This includes dismounting your bike or kick scooter before entering the school gates.
If your child wishes to cycle or kick scooter into school, a designated storage area is provided. This is on our back service road, just next to the tennis courts.
Bicycles and kick scooters are left at school at the owner's risk and you must supply your own lock if you wish to use one. It must be pointed out that the school does not have insurance cover in the case of damage.
All bicycles and kick scooters must be left in the cycle shed and not chained to the front railings as they may need to be removed.

Core Faculties: Transition Resources
English, Maths and Science are known as 'core' subjects. This is because you will study them all the way into Key Stage 4 (years 10 and 11) and the skills and knowledge you learn in these subjects pop up across the whole curriculum.
The 'curriculum' is a term used for all your subjects and the content to your learning. If you look back at the timetable in 'How will my day be structured?', you will see all the different subjects you will study in Key Stage 3 (years 7, 8 and 9). This is your curriculum.
