Uniform requirements for all students :

Students are expected to wear school uniform in years 7 to 11.  If an article is not listed, it should not be worn. We advise strongly that all uniform items are clearly labelled with the student’s name. 

Please be warned that we may send students home at the school gate to change if they persistently arrive to school wearing incorrect uniform.

UNIFORM FROM SEPT 2023

Years 7 and 10

BLAZER : black with school badge, from school outfitters 

WHITE SHIRT: Plain white shirt (no logos and not an aertex T-shirt) or Blouse that is buttoned and tucked in at the waist 

TROUSERS: black, tailored 

SKIRT : black, reasonable length (not lycra or stretch fabric) 

PULLOVER : V-neck, black with school logo – from school outfitters (optional)

SHOES : black, low heel, closed-in style leather look – no logos 

OUTDOOR JACKETS : should be black without logos etc. and not worn in school 

Years 8, 9 and 11 

BLAZER : black with school badge, from school outfitters 

POLO SHIRT Years 8 & 9: green with school logo, from school outfitters

POLO SHIRT Year 11: red with school logo, from school outfitters

In Year 11, prefects wear a French navy polo shirt with school logo.

Optional items for students in Years 8, 9 and 11

Optional Summer Uniform - for all year groups (Half term 6 - June/July)

Students will be permitted to wear black tailored shorts in the summer months during the final half term (June/July).  Shorts should not have a logo and should have belt loops into which a belt could be threaded, i.e. not an elasticated waistband.

NOTE: If a student opts to wear tailored black shorts they must be worn with black shoes and black or white ankle or trainer socks.  Trainers are not permitted to be worn with shorts.  Students are also expected to wear the correct white shirt/polo shirt (depending on Year Group) with the tailored shorts.

Items that are NOT allowed are:
  • Boots or trainers, including plimsolls
  • Patterned tights
  • Short skirts
  • 'Hoodies', denim jackets/fashion jackets
  • Fashion trousers
  • Baseball caps, beanie hats, durags and hots of any kind (unless for religious observance)
  • Facial piercings including tongue piercings

Jewellery

The only jewellery that is permitted is one ring and small stud earrings worn in the LOBE of the ear.  Please note that the school accepts no responsibility for loss or damage - items of high value should not be worn.

Make-up and accessories 

Excessive make-up is inappropriate and students should not wear any form of ‘false’ nails, including acrylics.  Nails should be short and of a natural colour. 

Hair

Students hairstyles should always be smart in nature, i.e. suitable for a professional working environment.  

 

PE Kit for all students
  • Red unisex polo shirt with school logo

  • One piece black swimming costume (girls)   Black swimming shorts/trunks (boys)
  • Trainers (fashion trainers such as Converse or plimsolls are not permitted)
  • Football boots, shin-pads, gumshield

  • Black tracksuit bottoms

Please note that cycling shorts, Nike pros etc are not permitted to be worn in PE lessons.  Piercings 

Exceptional Grant

In some exceptional circumstances Shoeburyness High School might be able to provide assistance to buy school uniform.  We do not provide funding for normal school clothing expenses and a grant is not provided on the basis of low income alone. A part-award of expenses may be considered.

Examples of exceptional circumstances (must be accompanied with low-income evidence)

  • A family being made homeless and placed in an address that requires a change of school. A letter from the district/borough council would be needed as evidence. Low-income evidence would also be required.

  • Parent and children placed in a refuge requiring a change of school. A letter from the refuge would be needed as evidence, along with low-income evidence.

  • Exceptional circumstances requiring the replacement of school clothing. Qualifying circumstances may include fire or flood damage. A letter from the relevant service would be required, along with low-income evidence.

Low income evidence (to accompany the above circumstances)

You must be able to evidence an exceptional circumstance and also provide evidence of one of the below:

  • Income Support.

  • Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance.

  • Job Seekers Allowance (income based).

  • Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit, with an annual income of less than £16,190.

  • The Guaranteed Element of Pension Credit.

  • Universal Credit, with an annual income of £7,400 or below.

Please note that applications based upon low-income evidence alone will not be approved.
