Welcome to Shoeburyness High School
Outstanding Examination Results 2016
Congratulations to all our students on their amazing achievements in the 2016 summer examinations.
This year the young people of Shoeburyness High School have achieved record-breaking results. Our students gained 78% A*-C in GCSE English (whereas the national figure was only 60.2%), 70% in Mathematics (nationally this was 61%) and 75% A*-C in Science (compared tonationally 62.3%).
A level results were also fantastic, with 98% of students gaining passes in their A levels.
In addition, Year 9 students were selected by the government to take part in the TIMMS international study in standards in Mathematics and Science. Not only did our students outperform the rest of England but they ranked 8th in Mathematics and 4th in Science out of 42 countries.
In the press you may have seen articles discussing the lack of social mobility in areas with selective school places. Disadvantaged pupils performed worse, gaining 44% A*-C in Mathematics in selective areas compared to the same pupils in non-selective areas (48% A*-C in Mathematics) in 2015. Our disadvantaged pupils gained 55% A*-C in Mathematics in 2015 and this is currently 58%. Pupil premium link.
We are a community comprehensive academy with a 10% selective intake. We are a heavily over-subscribed school with a positive learning ethos at the heart of all we do.
Shoeburyness High School is rated Good by Ofsted.
