Welcome from the Head
Shoeburyness High School is a community academy that serves students from Southend; students from different backgrounds, different abilities and talents.
We have an ethos of positivity and high aspiration. Everything we do is focused on learning which is underpinned by engagement, high expectations and opportunity.
The result of this has been successive Ofsted inspections which have graded the school...
"Good with Outstanding"

This year the young people of Shoeburyness High School have once again achieved outstanding results.  Our students gained 76% 9-4 in GCSE English (whereas the national figure was only 62%), 65% in Mathematics (nationally this was 59%) and 74% A*-C in Science (compared with, nationally, 58%).
A level results were also fantastic, with 95% of students gaining passes in their A levels.
In addition, Year 9 students were selected by the government to take part in the TIMMS international study in standards in Mathematics and Science.  Not only did our students outperform the rest of England but they ranked 8th in Mathematics and 4th in Science out of 42 countries.
In the press you may have seen articles discussing the lack of social mobility in areas with selective school places.  Disadvantaged pupils performed worse, gaining 44% A*-C in Mathematics in selective areas compared to the same pupils in non-selective areas (48% A*-C in Mathematics) in 2015.  Our disadvantaged pupils gained 58% A*-C in Mathematics in 2016 and this has risen to 64% (9-4).
But don’t just take our word for it!  The Regional Schools’ Commissioner said of this school:
“The highlight of the visit was the total drive for excellence throughout the school”.
The National Schools' Commissioner invited Shoeburyness High School to Westminster, along with just 8 other schools, to explain what we had done to make the school what it is and to help shape future policy.
But most importantly, this is what our parents and students say:
“As a parent it was great to talk to teachers who are truly engaged and also very encouraging.  It has given me great confidence in the school.”
Year 7 parent
“We receive very good support, guidance and information to help us make choices for the future.”
Student potential is recognised and they are encouraged to fulfil it.”
“The best thing about Shoeburyness High School is the quality of the teaching and all the opportunities we get.”
“My son comes home from school happy every day.”
Our vision is to make Shoeburyness High School the most outstanding school nationally.
Expect Excellence!
Mark Schofield
