Child Safeguarding

Child Safeguarding at Shoeburyness High School

Child Safeguarding is at the forefront of all we do at Shoeburyness High School.

All our staff receive training annually and are reminded of the very clear and high expectations placed upon them as professionals working with young people. This includes training on the Prevent, CSE, FGM and other safeguarding areas to be addressed.

All members of staff are recognisable by their identity badge and all post-16 students wear an identity lanyard. Any visitors to the school must sign in and, if the school does not have a copy of a valid DBS check, will be escorted at all times by a member of staff.

Risk assessments are in place for all changing areas and regularly updated by school leaders. This includes areas which are jointly used with the local community such as Shoeburyness Leisure Centre.

Please see below a copy of our Child Safeguarding Policy and the DfE Keepjng Children Safe in Education handout.

Southend-on-sea also has its own website (Local Safeguarding Children Board - LSCB) dedicated to improve the lives of children and your people in Southend. Click here to access this website.

Criminal and Sexual Exploitation (CSE) of Children

The exploitation of children is, sadly, a growing problem and has a devastating impact on those directly affected and their families. It happens, and it happens here, in Essex. This is not just involving older children, even primary age children are being drawn into exploitation. It is never too soon for our children to learn how to keep themselves safe.

Essex Police are working hard to tackle these awful crimes and have released information for parents and carers with responsibility for a child. If you are worried about about a child and CSE a new hotline number has been set up: 01245 452058

Please click here to see the letter to parents/carers from Essex Police regarding CSE.

You can find more information and advice about child exploitation on the Essex Police website
